Uncluttering with nine kids and all their toys
By
My friend Jacki has nine children. She is the most organized woman I know. She has to be to stay sane: they live in a three bedroom house.
When my three kids were little, we had one whole wall of the living room designated as a toy area. Granted, it was fairly organized, but still…
You see no toys when you walk into Jacki’s house - except for the ones her kids happen to be playing with at the time. The larger “outside” toys are kept on the back porch and she has given each of her kids a plastic bin for their “inside” belongings, which stack in the closet.
They have two rules:
Whatever fits into your bin, you can keep.
If you get something new, something old has to go. (They donate it to a charity so the kids get to feel they are helping others.)
It sounded a bit harsh to me at first, but they actually have plenty to share between them. I wish I would have been lucky enough to learn that organizational gem at such an early age!
How do you keep toys organized in your home?
