Organizing Toys Just Got a Whole Lot Easier!

By Laura

cubbyWe have a playroom downstairs for the kids. I have tried so many different systems for containing all the toys to no avail. I'm not a fan of the toybox - except for dress up clothes - because toys seem to get buried at the bottom and it's impossible to keep all like items together. And then I discovered the cubbie system!

I just wish you could know how exciting it is for me to experience the wonderfulness of a new shelf and the possibilities that come with it. This my friends has me dancing the JIG OF JOY! Yes, like the happy dance only better. I kid you not.

This particular cubbie shelving unit features nine cubbies, but you can also get it in eight. The fabric baskets are purchased separately so you can use as many as you'd like and they come in a variety of colors. I purchased this at Home Hardware here in Canada, and I believe they are available at Target in the US. I then printed off labels on the computer using Word and laminated them quickly and easily using self-sealing laminating cards.

It turned out really nicely. Now everything has a home and it makes cleanup such a snap even my two year can do it…..now that makes me very very happy!tag2

I love these. Have two cubby sets now, one for each kid. I also have some spares of the canvas boxes to use as 'put away' boxes–one goes in the main living area as a collection box for stuff that's wandered away from its home when I need to vacuum.

I use a label maker and 'pad' the label with extra spaces so I can stick it to itself around the handle.

I bought the drawers from Lowe's and the cubbies from Lowe's as well. Target had them, but for a slightly higher price. Lowe's also had more colors.

Yes Item#118080 actually has one like this but it has twenty cubbies, each measuring 8¼"H x 8¼"W x 6½"D. It's possible that those fabric totes would also fit in those cubbies to give it that cute look! You know how kids toys seem to grow especially with
