Product of the Week: Think Green

By Eva Wallace

bambooNot quite a product of the week; more like a material of the week. Did you know that Stacks has a whole section of its website dedicated to environmentally friendly “green” products? Here’s something you may not know; Bamboo and Rubberwood are very Earth friendly.

Bamboo is actually a grass. Incredibly fast growing and hardy, it can be harvested wild or plantation grown and will replenish itself within only a few years. Bamboo used whole is an excellent building material for furniture and home décor, while its fibers can be broken down and used to make paper, carpet-style rugs and even clothing!

Rubberwood is a member of the Maple family and is prized for its density, strength and color. Rubberwood spends the first 25-30 years of its life producing sap which is harvested and used in latex production. Unlike other woods that are cut down for the sole purpose of producing furniture, the actual wood is used only after it completes its latex producing cycle and dies.

Armed with a little knowledge, we can all make a difference in protecting our environment.

I knew Bamboo was more than just a panda bear’s favorite treat; I didn’t know how versatile it is!

Thanks for posting!

Thanks Kay-c!
I've learned so much on this job - I'll start sharing more little tidbits over the next few weeks.

Please do, Eva!

The more tidbits the better; especially if the knowledge assists people in the all important transition to more things green for the sake of our precious Earth!
