My Favourite Organising Tools #1 - Notebooks

By Marcia Francois

This is a new series that I'll be posting on the blog, one post per week.

Why do I love notebooks and pens?
It is easier to jot some notes down immediately without losing the thought than to have to try to remember it.
I have notebooks all over the house, one next to my bed, one on the entrance hall table, one in my handbag, one in the car, etc.

notes

Some uses for notebooks:

  1. Notes for your helper or gardener
  2. To-do lists
  3. To-blog lists
  4. Client notes
  5. Meeting notes
  6. Great ideas - business and other
  7. Recipes to try

What else do you use notebooks for?

My trick isn't so much notebooks as tote bags…one for church, one for the library trips, one for homeschooling stuff, one for the Vikings' baby books in progress! LOL That way if I'm on the way somewhere and I know I'm going to have some free time, I just snatch one up and take it with me! LOL

I LOVE notebooks. And pens and markers and highlighters and anything else "office supply", I was just drooling over a set of rolling file folders tonight :0)

So I will find any excuse to use a nice notebook.

I have some separate notebooks for various writing projects, a notebook for blog post ideas, various notebooks for brainstorming and course notes and a few notebook to track various things like things I have done so that I feel like I have accomplished something on "those days" and it comes in handy sometimes if I need to know when I did this or that.

I have a calender notebook (or 3 of various sizes and types) I use the smaller one with a notes area for keeping my finances and bill paying schedule in order.

A notebook by the phone of course.

And a notebook on my desk that I use all the time now for my weight loss journal/food diary/exercise etc.

I'm always open for a new notebook, I just bought 2 nifty ones last week.

They inspire me and keep me organized. Before the notebooks it was little bits of paper.

Don't get me started on binders. And whiteboards :0)

Notebooks huh!

There is reason I knew I liked you. I especially love the ones that fit in my purse!

I use notebooks to write down things like a wine I've ordered and really like (there's no way I'd remember it later) or books I want to read, or music I like.

I like to keep different types of info in different notebooks - but, does anyone have this problem: now I have to organize my various notebooks!

Oooh, I love all the ideas!

Jan - you are a gal after my own heart :)

Megan - Right back at you!

Suzanne - I am rapidly getting to that place. In fact, I have 4 on my desk right now and I'm paring them down!

I've carried around a notebook for over ten years. Everything in my life goes in that book, appointments, who I talked to, etc. If I lose it, I'm completely lost.

I started keeping it after a Risk Reduction class which was required by my broker (I was a Realtor in previously). The speaker impressed the importance of keeping contemporaneous notes during a transaction.

Even though I'm not in real estate anymore, I still continue the practice. I couldn't do without it.

I'm all for the trusty notebook but like Suzanne, Ive got so many that i need to start organizing my notebooks now! Hence the reason i discovered this thread , my search for ideas to help me reorganize my life, notebooks included lol.

Ive tried using Microsoft one note but i can't get into 'jotting things' on my pc, love the idea though so have instead taken to looking for templates/planners etc which i can download and print instead…..
