Happy Halloween! Have fun and stay safe out there tonight!
The unofficial holiday season, although at the end of the year, always seems to inspire all things new and fresh. It’s the time of year when you find yourself saying “Oh, I’d better get on that!” over and over again. And we all know that there’s nothing quite like spending some time to gather new ideas, recipes and inspirations. Pinterest is a great holding tank for all of the things that you want to try. Holidays…Full Steam Ahead! With Halloween less than a week away, it’s time to start preparing for the feeding frenzy that is the holiday season! No matter what holiday we are talking about, most people agree that the kitchen is the center of all the action. What can I say… people love to eat cozy comfort food this time of year whether they are entertaining or not. Throw Christmas cookies into the mix and you’ve got a recipe for clutter in the kitchen for the next few months.
We’ve collected our best kitchen organizers and tools that will help make this season a little less chaotic, and a little more cheerful:
Words cannot describe how elegant an Under Cabinet Stemware Holder looks in the kitchen, or mounted under the buffet in the dining room. It gives off a warm, welcoming feel when guests arrive and keeps them from having to ask “Where are your wine glasses?” Read more
For the last few months I have been using a jerry-rigged “bike rack” to store my ride. While this has been extremely cost effective, I worry that my bicycle will get stolen at some point. The bicycle is simply tied up to a truss in the parking garage below my building. While this basement garage is fairly well-secured, it is not particularly difficult for an intruder to get into if he or she so desired. So I started to research an appropriate bicycle rack for my storage needs and came across and (perhaps not so surprising) revelation: bicycle racks are expensive! Here are a couple suggestions for affordable bike racks.
While you may not want to blow your money on a bike rack, it is important to not be penny-wise and pound-foolish. If your bicycle is not secured properly, you could end up spending hundreds or thousands to replace your bicycle or its parts when you could have just parted with 50 bucks or so to keep it properly stored. While it may seem like an unnecessary expense at the time, you will be extremely happy with your decision when you realize the garage has been raided but your bicycle was left untouched.
So let’s go onto the affordable bicycle racks so you can find the proper storage for your ride. While you can definitely spend some big bucks on a rack, there are plenty that are sturdy, secure and low-cost.
Two great affordable bike racks
The Lean Machine Gravity Bike Rack has a very fitting name – it is both extremely durable and lightweight, making it perfect for those that need to store their bicycle on the go. The rack can hold up to two bicycles, and with a price tag under 60 dollars, is certainly a great affordable bike rack choice.
For those that are a little more tight on space, the Platinum One Bike Adjustable Wall Mount is a great affordable bike rack option. This rack can be installed onto the wall and takes up next to no space! The rack can hold one bicycle at a time and comes in at a price under $40! This is one of the most simple affordable bike racks available today.
As you can see, there are plenty of affordable bike racks available for any situation and need. With so many options available, there really is no excuse for you to keep tying your bike up to trees and stops signs in your front yard!

The bathroom is one of the rooms in your home that tends to get cluttered no matter how hard you try to keep things organized. Many older homes don’t even have what we traditionally call a master bath – instead, you are greeted with a modest tub, toilet and vanity setup cramped into a small, often linear space. Read more
This week’s featured product has safety and cozyness in mind, perfect for this time of year! As we head into the holidays at full steam, with Halloween kicking off the season less than two weeks from now, we are reminded of the soft glow of candle light. Many of us have switched over to battery operated tealight candles in our jack-o-lanterns for safety and ease of use. But battery operated candles aren’t just for pumpkins, they are also an important part of your decor throughout the home during the holiday season, providing you with the glow that you want but letting you rest assured that you’re not going to burn the house down if you forget to put them out! This Remote LED Candle Set is beautiful with a creamy off white wax like finish and, yes, a remote control for operation. Also available is the Battery LED Candle Set (sorry, NO remote), with a classic white look. The flames are realistic, flickering just like a real flame but instead they are LED light bulbs.
Enjoy this holiday season with a safe and beautiful home!

Winter is a great time to revamp your bedroom. Traditionally in the winter you want to go with darker colors and heavier fabrics as opposed to the lighter designs you would use in the summer. Pick out your favorite color or pick a favorite painting and plan your entire room from there. You may want to paint, but you can get by without painting if your room has a neutral color base. As you plan out your room, it helps to have an overall design in mind or at least a basic color you want to go with. Some people will go with traditional deep reds or greens, but a dark purple or grey can also make great colors for your bedroom in the winter.
I am sure most Bike Racks blog readers are like me, and would not really mind seeing all cars wiped off the face of the earth. Cars, ugh, why – am I right? However, I will admit that the self-propelled automobile is here to stay, and is an important cog in the transportation equation. Plus, you need a vehicle to get you to some of those amazing rides that are not within bicycling distance. Even though I despise automobiles, I have a truck and a truck bed bike rack to get to those far-off riding locations.
I feel a little pang of guilt every time I fire up the old F-150, but I know that pretty soon I’ll be blissfully riding along paths that are free from the stresses of cars. What is great about using a truck bed bike rack to transport your ride is that they are totally safe from other cars on the road. There is a saying that a rear-mounted bike rack basically turns your bicycle into a $1000 bumper. Even the slightest fender bender means ruin for your state of the art bicycle.
What to look for in a truck bed bike rack
So when looking for a truck bed bike rack, there are only a few things you need to keep in mind. First of all it is important to look for a rack that is fairly light weight. This is important because you need to lift that sucker up into the bed – if it weighs over 100 pounds that is going to be a difficult task that requires more than one person.
Another important factor is that it can be secured to the bed of the truck. You can use a regular bike rack as your truck bed bike rack, but if it cannot get properly attached to the vehicle, you are going to have some bikes in the middle of the interstate.
With these factors in mind, I would recommend the Advantage BedRack by Heininger. This brand is very well known for their high-quality bike racks, which are durable and very easy to use. This rack is relatively light weight at less than 50 pounds. This is a perfect choice for those truck-driving bicycle enthusiasts like me.
With the holidays rapidly approaching, it’s time to get that wine collection under control once and for all! If you are an entertainer by nature and plan on having friends and family over multiple times during this holiday season, a medium sized wine rack is the way to go! This week’s featured product, the 8 Bottle Dakota Wine Rack with Display Top is my favorite pick of the season, brand new. This wine storage rack combines the best of storage and appearance capabilities, ideal for leaving out in plain view of guests.
The eight bottle capacity allows you to put out your “party wines” and not risk accidental opening of the expensive stuff, which can remain safely stowed away in your permanent wine storage area. The top stores the bottles face up, just like you would see in a store, so that you can easily read the labels without even picking up the bottle! And it comes in beautiful finishes, including an unfinished wood that can be stained or painted to match your decor! Enjoy!
Have another size in mind? The Dakota Wine Racks are available in a variety of sizes, capacities and finishes:
Last week I discussed the smallest bike rack, which is a great option for those that are on the go or live alone. There is no need to take up a ton of space when it is just you and your bicycle. However, this is not the situation for most of my readers. Today we head to the opposite end of the spectrum – we will look into the ultimate family bike rack!
When searching for the ultimate family bike rack, it is important to find a product that can accommodate all of your bicycles at once. I will assume that the average American family is about four people, so we will focus on bike racks that are able to accommodate up to four bicycles.
This pretty much limits us to just a couple of choices when searching for the ultimate family bike rack. It seems that most bike racks are designed to hold two bicycles at a time. If you find one that you absolutely love, then I would recommend getting a pair of two-bicycle racks. But this can waste valuable space in the garage or shed.
One great family bike rack is the Free Standing Four Bike Rack. This rack has a wide footprint that gives it excellent stability. The rack is made from steel with epoxy coating for a long-lasting quality. One other great benefit of this rack is that it is freestanding. This means it requires no additional mounting, which can be problematic when trying to store large items like bicycles.
Another great choice is the Garage Gator motorized storage system. This system is designed to store just about any item, from kayaks to bicycles. With a capacity of 220 pounds, that should be enough for all of your family’s bicycles.
Lastly, we have the Four Bicycle Hanger. This is a great choice for those that are tight on storage space, because it takes up zero floor space! However, you do need to mount it to a wall, so be sure to get it screwed into the studs.
There you have it – three family bike rack options that are perfect for any situation!
